My Power Care Pack (My PCP)

Purpose of the collaboration: The project aims to improve HIV antiretroviral therapy (ART) outcomes across ten clinics in the Eastern Cape by addressing behavioural barriers to HIV care and treatment. Specifically, it seeks to enhance treatment literacy, strengthen retention in HIV care, reduce stigma associated with living with HIV and encourage re-engagement in care among clients who have interrupted treatment.

Description of the collaboration: Indlela and the Eastern Cape Department of Health co-designed the My Power Care Pack (PCP) – a package of four evidence-based behavioural interventions/tools for use by healthcare providers and care recipients:

B-OK bead bottles filled with red and black beads, used as a visual tool to improve treatment literacy
FebriSol adherence scratch-off cards are used to help clients monitor and reflect on their daily treatment-taking patterns
From Now On video is a motivational video featuring real stories from men living with HIV, to motivate others living with HIV to start and stay on treatment
Fresh Start messages are supportive SMS reminders used to encourage re-engagement in care among PLHIV who have missed their clinic visits

The tools are presented in a box designed to be easy to understand and visually appealing for those delivering care. The tools were designed to be practical and easy to use.

The project was launched on 4-6 November 2025 across ten clinics in Nelson Mandela Bay district and Buffalo City. The Indlela and Eastern Cape provincial and district teams oriented district officials and facilities on My PCP and handed over the boxes for implementation.

The facility teams will monitor how the package is working in practice in order to identify areas for refinement and elicit insights to guide future scale-up efforts. Feedback is being gathered through existing channels such as WhatsApp groups where staff share their experiences, insights, and challenges with implementing the tools in My PCP.

Expected outputs: Improvement in ART outcomes in the participating clinics, specifically improved treatment literacy, stronger adherence to HIV treatment, and increased retention in care. The project also aims to support re-engagement on ART among clients who started but are not currently taking HIV treatment.
